About

A quieter kind of review site

Watchtower is a small, independent project. We believe camera reviews should read like field notes — calm, factual, and honest about what they don't know.

What we are

Most camera sites sell you a lab: dark-room benchmarks, 1,200-hour tests, scores to two decimal places. We don't have a lab, and we won't pretend to.

What we do have is patience with spec sheets, manuals and thousands of owner reports. We turn that into plain comparisons and a score you can trust to be our own judgement — not a manufacturer's talking point.

How we review

Every camera is judged against the same four questions, so the comparisons stay fair:

01

Gather the facts

We compile publicly documented specs: resolution, field of view, night vision, power and storage. Unknowns stay blank — never guessed.

02

Compare like for like

Every camera is judged on the same four criteria: image quality, night vision, power and install, long-term cost.

03

Price the subscription

Monthly fees change a camera's real cost. We flag which models need a cloud plan and which record locally for free.

04

Verify before you buy

Prices and availability move. Confirm the final details and current price on the official page before checkout.

Independence & disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Ratings are never for sale, and no manufacturer sees a score before you do. Where we don't know a detail, we leave it out instead of guessing.
